PLEASE NOTE: Portable long service leave for the community services sector is intended to commence from 1 July 2025.

How to register as an employer

We administer a portable long service leave scheme for the South Australian community services sector.

In South Australia, full time, part time and casual employees performing community services work are entitled to portable long service leave.

This means they don't have to work with the same employer for 10 years to be eligible for long service leave - they are entitled to long service leave based on their time in the community services sector.

Employers of eligible workers are required by law to register with SA Portable Long Service Leave - Community Services, lodge Employer Returns, and pay a levy based on their workers' remuneration (excluding apprentices who are levy free).

We will keep a record of your employee's service and pay them direct when they become entitled to long service leave at no further cost to you.

If you do need to register, you will be able to fill in an application form online after commencement of the scheme. A Community Engagement Officer will be available to visit to explain your obligations or assist you with registration, or you can contact us for assistance by phone or email.
