You can take an extended break from the industry without losing your long service leave entitlement.
If you decide to take a break from working in the community services sector, it's important to take note of the below timeframes. If you are not registered within the applicable period, the Months of service you have accrued will be cancelled. This means if you return to the work in the sector at a later date, you will commence recording service from zero.
Months of Service | Timeframe |
Less than 60 Months (5 years) | 2 years break |
Between 60 Months and 84 Months (5 - 7 years) | 3 years break |
More than 84 Months (7 years) | No cancellation |
Still working in the sector in South Australia?
Check our eligibility information to see whether the type of work you are performing is eligible to be registered in the scheme. Information about unregistered service can be viewed here.
Working interstate?
Currently no agreement exists between schemes to recognise service recorded in other jurisdictions, however there are provisions in the Portable Long Service Leave Act 2024 for the recognition of interstate service when such an agreement exists. If you are currently working interstate, please contact us to let us know the state you are working in and your membership number so we can update your records.
