Start planning now to enjoy your long service leave.
Claiming your portable long service leave is easy!
When can I apply?
You will be able to apply to take long service leave once you have recorded more than 120 Months of service (equivalent to 10 years). We will let you know when this happens, and you will be able to check how close you are at any point by logging in to your Worker Portal to see the number of Months of service you have recorded.
How much leave can I take?
You don't have to take your entitlements all at once, they just need to be claimed in whole days with a minimum of 1 week (7 days) at a time. Once you have accrued your 13 weeks of leave, it doesn't end there either - for each 12 Months you work thereafter, you'll receive a further 1.3 weeks of leave.
How do I apply?
When you're ready to take leave, simply log into the Worker Portal, complete the online claim form, then get ready to enjoy some much deserved rest and relaxation. If an employer currently has you registered, they will be required to approve your period of leave online.
How much will I be paid?
Your rate of pay will be based on your average rate of pay over the 3 years prior to your claim. If you have multiple employers, your rate of pay will be based on your average rate for all employers combined over the 3 years prior to your claim.
If you have not been employed prior to making your claim, you rate of pay will be abased on your average rate of pay over the last 3 years of service we have recorded for you with SA Portable Long Service Leave - Community Services.
Rates vary if you claim includes leave accrued under the Long Service Lave Act 1987. If you are lodging a claim including service accrued under the Long Service Leave Act 1987, please contact us to obtain personalised advice for your particular circumstances.
Your weekly rate of pay and expected gross payment will be displayed during the lodgement of your claim through the Worker Portal.
You'll receive an email from us after your payment ahs been processed, and you PAYG payment summary will be available in the Worker Portal for you to download.
When will I be paid?
We will pay you in advance for your whole period of leave. The Portable Long Service Leave Act 2024 requires your claim to be lodged at least 2 months prior to your leave, so please make sure you lodge well in advance. Provided we have all the necessary information, we'll make your payment the week before your leave starts.
If you've submitted a request for a cash-out payment, your payment will be made as soon as practicable. Please allow at least 3 weeks for processing these requests.
Can I work while on long service leave?
If you're not intending to take time off work, please apply for a cash-out payment rather than long service leave. Long service leave is your time to take a break from work, relax and recharge.
What happens if a public holiday falls within my period of leave?
We will pay you as a long service leave day. Your employer will not pay you for the public holiday.
Do I accrue service while on leave?
When you take long service leave, we credit you with the applicable Months of service for the period of your leave. For example, if you take 13 weeks leave, you will be credited with 3 Months of service for each quarter your leave falls within. This means that while you are on long service leave you are accruing an entitlement towards your next period of leave.
Can I extend my long service leave?
You are not able to extend your leave, however you may apply for periods of leave consecutively. The minimum period for long service leave is 1 week (7 days). You'll need to complete a new claim through the Worker Portal.

It is important to note that if you have not accrued more than 120 Months of service, you are claiming a pro-rata payment which will break your service for long service leave purposes. This means you will need to accrue a further 84 Months of service before you qualify for any further benefit from the scheme.
