Trainees are now exempt from levies

The SAPLSL-CS Board has approved a change to the Portable Long Service Leave for the Community Services scheme.

Trainees are now included in the definition of an ‘apprentice’ and are exempt from levy payments. This recognises the important role trainees play in building skills across the community services sector and reduces costs for employers who support them.

What this means

Apprentices and trainees are exempt from levy.

If you have already paid levy for trainees

If you included trainees in your first Quarterly Return and paid a levy for those workers, you will need to provide a copy of the recognised training contract for review. We will then confirm eligibility and adjust the Quarterly Return. A credit will be applied to your Employer account.

Credits can be deducted from your next Quarterly Return or refunded upon request.

Refund requests must be submitted through the Employer Portal using the Refund request under the Forms tab.
